On Saturday 21st May 2016 the society went on an outing to West Cork visiting many sites associated with Michael Collins. Our first stop was at the Michael Collins centre just outside Clonakilty owned and run by Timothy and Dolores Crowley. They have built this centre about the life and times of Michael Collins.Timothy spoke and showed slides about Michael Collins’life.Timothy travelled with us as our guide for the rest of the day.We went on a short walking tour of Clonakilty town and had lunch in O Donovan’s Hotel. After lunch we had a brief visit to Inchydoney beach before getting back to the serious business of the day. Our next stop was Michael Collins’ birth place at Woodfield,Lisavaird and from there we headed to the site of the Kilmichael ambush. We finished off our visit to West Cork at Beal na Blath the place where Michael Collins was shot. Our thanks to Timothy Crowley for being a wonderful guide on the day. A great day was had by all.
